In order to help vulnerable persons who are unemployed and do not receive any government aid, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) program was founded. However, many of the people who were given grants after being given approval for this assistance mechanism have not yet received them.

According to the South African Social Security Agency, 7.5 million persons are eligible to receive the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant (Sassa). Be that as it may, vast numbers of these people have not gotten any cash.

In order to make sure that candidates for SRD grants are deserving of their financing, Sassa performs a number of verification procedures. Looking into the applicant’s bank account to verify whether there are any monies that exceed the permitted limit is one of these verification checks.

A means test is a method for determining whether a person qualifies for financial aid. A means test is used to determine if a grant candidate for the SRD earns more than the R624 minimum.

If an applicant’s income exceeds the limit, their SRD grant application will be denied; however, if their account balance falls below the limit, they will be accepted for payment.

The applicant must be between the ages of 19 and 59, unemployed, and not receiving any other government assistance in order to be authorized for payment.

According to Sassa, a number of issues could cause a delay for the SRD award candidates whose applications were accepted. This essentially related to the information provided by award contenders.

“Those supported but not yet paid are those whose records are extraordinary ledgers or financial balances given bombed financial balance confirmation or ledgers imminent check from Public Depository or the ones who opted to send installments,” Sassa stated.

According to Sassa, payments in cash began on September 19, 2022.
