The government of South Africa offers social aid to those in need. The SASSA is responsible for overseeing social donations in South Africa. Social grants may be available to those who are at danger of falling into poverty and who require assistance from the government to improve their level of living. Parents with small children, those with disabilities, and the elderly are commonly included. A social grant is only available to South African citizens, lawful permanent residents, and refugees. They must also be South African nationals.
A “means test” is used to a number of social benefits, including child support, disability, care dependence, and the elimination of social suffering. Based on your income and assets, SASSA will utilize the means test to assess if you are eligible for a social grant. The means test determines your eligibility for a grant designed for people who cannot afford to live independently.
