A one-time payment is given as a Social Relief of Distress award to someone who is in extreme need. People who are unable to provide for their family’ fundamental needs or their own go home with the reward.
The grant may include:

cash
-
gift cards
-
food as a component
You must fulfill one of the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for Social Relief of Distress:

While you wait for your children’s grants to be processed, you need help.
-
There has been an emergency or disaster (e.g. your house has burnt down)
-
Despite being in a dire situation, you are ineligible for a grant.
-
You have a medical condition that prevents you from working for less than six months.
-
You cannot get child support from your child or the other parent of the kids.
-
The family’s primary provider passed away.
-
The primary earner has spent a short time behind bars (less than six months)
-
Although your neighborhood or town has been affected by a disaster, it has not been declared a disaster area.
For social relief of distress, you can utilize a food box or a meal voucher. Some provinces provide financial aid. Social Relief of Distress is only offered for a brief period of time, usually three months, with a possible extension of another three months.
What you need to do.
Apply for social distress relief at the SASSA office that is most convenient for you or online at https://srd.sassa.gov.za.
Please submit your application together with the necessary documents:

your 13-digit barcoded identification document and the birth certificates of your kids

If you don’t have a birth certificate or an identification document:
-
an affidavit that a Justice of the Peace has ordered A sentence noting that giving false or misleading information will result in penalty under Section 21 of the Social Assistance Act of 2004 must be included in the affidavit.

a sworn statement from a reliable source who is familiar with both the applicant and the child A councillor, traditional figurehead, social worker, or member of the clergy might say this.

evidence that an application for a birth certificate or other identifying document has been submitted to the Department of Home Affairs
-
A temporary identity paper issued by the Department of Home Affairs, if applicable.

a baptismal certificate.

a road to health clinic card.
-
a school report.
Please remember that no application may be submitted without a sworn declaration or affidavit.
An affidavit from your neighborhood police department, chief, counselor, or religious leader may be sufficient if you don’t have proof of identification or birth certificates.
Provide evidence that you have:

applied for a grant
-
experienced an emergency (e.g. provide a police report that your house burnt down)
are married -
divorced or single
-
have attempted to get maintenance
-
lack money
-
have a temporary medical condition.

How much time does it take?

Your application will be examined immediately.
-
Following the submission of your application, it will be examined for legitimacy and a genuine need for the service.

Even if you don’t have all the necessary paperwork, you’ll still get your first month’s food box, voucher, or cash.

Don’t forget to deliver all the paperwork to the officer before the second month’s payment is due. If you fail to comply, you risk losing your food box, voucher, or cash for the following two months.

After three months, if your situation hasn’t changed, you can ask to have the award extended for another three.

The service is free.
