Residents who are in need receive social assistance from the South African government. In South Africa, SASSA is in charge of managing social grants. Social grants may be available to those who are at danger of falling into poverty and who require government assistance to improve their standard of living. The elderly, those with impairments, and parents of young children are frequently included. A South African native, permitted permanent resident, or refugee must apply for a social grant (proof of such status must be provided). They also have to be South African citizens.
What is a means test?
Some social grants, such as child support, disability, care dependency, and social relief of distress, are subject to a “means test”, SASSA will use the means test to determine whether you qualify for a social grant based on your income and assets. The means test determines your eligibility for a grant designed for people who cannot afford to live independently.
Care dependency allowance
Those who have full-time jobs and have disabled children may be eligible for care dependence allowances. How much money will be distributed overall for this grant?
Every month, a child receives R1 860.
What is the best way to determine if you qualify for the grant?
The child must be chronically disabled, as determined by a medical officer, and under the age of 18, in order to qualify for the care dependency award. If you are married, both you and your spouse must meet the minimum requirements for the means test.
