Millions of South Africans depend on the R350 allowance each month to pay for needs. Claimants did not receive grant payments for two months as a result of changes to the rules controlling the award, though.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has started processing grant payments worth R350 for the two months of June and July. Sassa claims that due to the department of social development’s (DSD) efforts to complete a functional verification process, they were unable to process R350 grant payments for the months of April and May. “April payments and verifications resumed on July 12, 2022. As May 2022 verification has not yet begun, the status is still pending for that month, according to Sassa.

Sassa also disclosed that those who wish to apply for the R350 stipend must do so at least once every three months.

The reconfirmation of R350 grant applications informs Sassa that applicants still need and fulfill the requirements for the award. Sassa continued by saying that past candidates can alter their answers to the screening form at any time if their circumstances change or if they discover an error.
