Uj Nsfas 2024-2025: Are you a Student of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in need of financial assistance to study at a tertiary institution? Apply for a National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a South African government student financial aid scheme which provides financial aid to undergraduate students to help pay for the cost of their tertiary education after finishing high school. It is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened applications for the 2024 academic year. All students in South Africa’s public universities and TVET Colleges can apply for the funding. This includes the University of Johannesburg students. Kindly follow the steps below to apply early to avoid rejection of your application.

 

Who Can Apply For NSFAS Application Online Form?

  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

 

What is required during the Application Process?

NSFAS may need more information from you to process your application, check what supporting documents are required and ensure that you have all the relevant information:

  1. Your own cellphone number and email address
  2. Copy of your ID or birth certificate
  3. ID copies of parents, guardians or spouse (If applicable)
  4. Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
  5. Your parents, guardian or spouse’s proof of income
  6. If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required
  7. Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form, click here to download
  8. An applicant recognised as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form, click here to download.

How To Apply For Uj Nsfas Online Application

Applicants are required to create an NSFAS account before they can apply for funding. Here are the simple steps to follow to create the account.

  • Log onto www.nsfas.org.za
  • Click on ‘register’
  • Complete the required fields (ID number, cellphone number and email address)
  • Upload a copy of your ID or birth certificate. If you are uploading a copy of a Smart-ID, please ensure that both sides are visible on the copy
  1. Type in first names (as per ID number)
  2. Type in Surname (as per ID number)
  3. Type in your ID number (will your username)
  4. Type in your own Email address
  5. Type in your own Cellphone number
  6. Accept terms and conditions Tick the box provided, to allow NSFAS to check the information provided (compulsory)
  7. Create a Password, To (protect your account)

ID number, Names and Surname are validated against the Department of Home Affairs database. Only valid South African ID information will be accepted.

 

Once your funding application becomes successful, NSFAS will cover your costs for:

  • Accommodation
  • Transport
  • Living allowance
  • Book allowance
  • Incidental/personal care allowance

  If you are studying at the University of South Africa (UNISA) you will receive funding for:

  • Tuition
  • Books (subject to the number of modules registered
  • Personal care allowance
