The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is a South African government student financial aid scheme that provides financial aid to undergraduate students to help pay for the cost of their tertiary education after finishing high school.

NSFAS provide financial assistance in the form of bursaries and loans to eligible students at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges in South Africa.

 

Online Application Date For Nsfas Funding

The application doors for Nsfas will be opened for the year 2024 to all applicants from the 7th of November 2023 and closes on the 21st of January 2024. Applicants are therefore urged to apply within the application deadline.

 

What does the bursary cover?

TVET

  • Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

 

Who Qualifies For NSFAS Funding?
  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

 

Required Supporting Documents To Apply For NSFAS Funding.

  1. Provide your own cellphone number and email address
  2. You must have a copy of your ID or birth certificate
  3. National ID copies of parents, guardians, or spouse
  4. The evidence of your income or 1 year’s IRP5 if necessary
  5. The proof of income of your parents, guardian, or spouse.
  6. If you are a SASSA grant recipient, you don’t need to provide any evidence of income.
  7. All Applicants with a disability should provide and submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
  8. An applicant known as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development should also provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form. Nsfas 2024-2025

  1. Visit the NSFAS Application website: www.nsfas.org.za
  2. Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab

  6. Answer the questions you see on the screen
  7. Upload all the required supporting documents
  8. Finally, you click on ‘submit’

Nsfas Meaning 2024-2025: The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is a South African government student financial aid scheme that provides financial aid to undergraduate students to help pay for the cost of their tertiary education after finishing high school. It is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training. The scheme was established in terms of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme Act 56 of 1999. This is a requirement that all applicants must meet.

Before applying, candidates should verify that they match the following minimum entrance standards to avoid being denied by the nsfas board

  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

What documents are needed to apply for NSFAS?

  • You must provide a copy of your ID.
  • To complete registration, you will need a copy of your ID. If you have an ID card, ensure you upload a copy reflecting both sides of your ID card.
  • You must have an NSFAS consent form from your parent(s), guardian, or spouse to submit your personal information for validation and verification. Once you accept the applicable terms and conditions, you confirm that you have received consent from all relevant parties.

 

If you rely on your parents, guardians, or spouse, you must supply the following:

  • ID copies of parent(s), guardian, or spouse.
  • Proof of income of the parent(s), guardian, or spouse (payslip or appointment letter, where applicable).
  • If your parents, the person who supports you, or your legal guardian are retired, provide a copy of an official pension slip or bank statement showing pension payment.
  • If you’ve indicated that a dependent in your household is a student, provide proof of registration or acceptance at the TVET college or university for each dependent.

 

You must offer the following if you are self-sufficient:

  • Proof of income (payslip or appointment letter).
  • 1 year’s IRP5 form.

 

If the student is disabled, they must provide the following

  • A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form (if their information is not pre-populated on the online application form).
  • You must provide proof of your disability and a quotation for assistive devices as supporting documents with the application form. Funding for assistive devices follows the same approval process as for financial aid.
  • If you are successful in your application for financial aid and you have received notice of the final approval amount from NSFAS, you may arrange to purchase your assistive device through the student disability unit at the university or FET college where you are going to study. The university or FET college can purchase the assistive device on your behalf.

 

Vulnerable students (children under 18 years), must provide:

  • A completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form must be completed by a social worker.

 

Other nsfas online applications required documents

  • Retrenchment letter.
  • Provide Death certificate/s if either of your parents is deceased.
  • Divorce decree.
