Social relief of distress is the temporary support provided to people who are in such severe material need that they are unable to meet the most basic demands of their family.

This might be the case for any of the subsequent causes:

You need assistance. While you wait for the processing of your children’s grants
You are in a terrible circumstance following a tragedy or calamity (such your house burning down), are unable to work for fewer than six months due to a medical condition, and are not entitled to child support from the other parent of your child or children.

The family’s main provider has passed away, was imprisoned for a brief period (less than six months), or your community has been hit by a disaster but it hasn’t been labeled a disaster area.

What outcomes do you observe?

Food boxes or food vouchers are two examples of the Social Relief of Distress. Some provinces pay for this assistance. It is only possible to get Social Relief of Distress for a short period of time, often up to three months, which can be extended for an additional three months.
