Social relief of distress is the brief supply of aid meant for those who are in such extreme need of material goods that they are unable to provide for the most basic necessities of their family.

The following reasons might be the cause of this:

While you wait for the processing of your children’s awards, you need assistance.
There has been a crisis or catastrophe (e.g. your house has burnt down)
You are in a dire position and do not qualify for a grant.
due to a medical condition, you are unable to work for a period of less than six months.
You are unable to get maintenance from your child’s or children’s other parent.
The family’s primary provider has passed away.
The breadwinner was given a brief jail sentence (less than six months)
You’ve experienced a disaster, but the area or community in which you live has not been declared a disaster area.

Who is qualified?

Those who are interested must be:

  • Above the age of 18
  • Unemployed
  • Not receiving any income
  • Not receiving any social grant
  • Interested not getting any unemployment benefits and not being eligible for any unemployment benefits
  • Not being given a scholarship via the National Student Financial Aid Scheme
  • Not residing in a facility supported by or sponsored by the government

Items required for the application

  • Identity Number / Department of Home Permit
  • Name and Surname as captured in the ID (and initials)
  • Banking Details ie Bank name and account number
  • Contact Details
  • Proof of Residential Address

Important Note

To apply, just utilize WhatsApp, USSD, or email. Avoid seeing them in person at their offices. Please be patient as application channels are currently quite busy.

Volunteers from the community will be used to assist those who lack access to technology in applying.

All submissions and payments must be made electronically. absolutely no paper applications. No money. At SASSA offices, you cannot apply in person either.

Applications must have a residential address submitted, although they may not necessarily require documentation to prove it, such as in the case of an informal dwelling.

Give no one your bank account information if you have one. You won’t be asked for your bank’s name and account information for payment until after your application has been accepted. You will be paid in cash if you don’t have a bank account.

Only 30% of the personnel will be present when the SASSA offices open to the public each week from Monday to Thursday. Elderly grant applications are accepted on Monday and Tuesday, while child support and foster care grant applications are accepted on Wednesday and Thursday. Disability and all other grants are currently not open for application.

Temporary disability payments that were suspended in February and March will now resume and be provided through October.
