Citizens in need are given social subsidies by the South African government. Social grants in South Africa are managed by the SASSA. People who are about to go hungry are given social grants if they need the government’s help to raise their standard of living. Parents of young children, the elderly, and people with disabilities are frequently included in this group. You must be a South African citizen, a legal permanent resident, or a refugee to be qualified for a social grant. Additionally, they must be citizens of South Africa.
A “means test” is used to several social benefits, including child support, disability, care dependence, and social alleviation of distress. Based on your income and assets, SASSA will conduct a means test to establish your eligibility for a social grant. Your eligibility for a subsidy for those who cannot afford to live independently is determined by the means test.
Care dependency compensation
Parents of handicapped children who work full time may be eligible for care dependence payments. How much money, in total, will be distributed as part of this grant?
R1 860 per child, per month.
How can you find out whether you’ve been given the grant?
To qualify for the care dependence award, the kid must be under the age of 18 and medically determined to be permanently disabled. If you’re married, both you and your spouse need to fulfill the means test eligibility standards. You can use the information on this page to assist you with your Sassa application.
A person who gets a social grant is not eligible to additionally receive social relief from suffering. Anyone who gets both grants and social assistance is required to pay back the amount of social help they received. Future social grant payments, including any arrears, will be reduced by this sum.
However, if the recipient of a social grant also received disaster relief, no money will be reimbursed for that.
