The South African Social Security Agency has released an amended awards calendar for the remaining months of 2024. (SASSA).
The social security administration stated it had altered the days on which the various awards are paid as a result of public concerns. Payments will now be made on the second of every month beginning in April.
If the second day of the month comes on a weekend or a holiday, the funds will be paid the next working day, according to the statement. The most recent grants calendar is shown below:

The severe effects of the pandemic on the economy and its capacity to generate jobs have renewed interest in the possibility of a basic income grant as an additional tool to combat poverty and inequality and foster a more inclusive growth path, according to the department. New concerns have also been raised about the reliance on economic growth to address unemployment and poverty. Additionally, the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant’s renewal for an additional year is anticipated to offer around 10 million unemployed South Africans basic assistance as they hunt for employment.
The Department of Social Development plans to start a feasibility study for a basic income grant during this fiscal year.
