  • Step 1: Go to the University of Johannesburg’s website and click the Admission > Apply for Admission link for applicants seeking undergraduate or graduate admission (UJ Online Application). Following that, you can choose your course of action and proceed to the registration, application, and document uploading stages. This link will take you to the Online Application System at the University of Johannesburg.

 

  • Step 2: Register for classes at the University of Johannesburg online. After clicking the link in step one above, you will be directed to the University of Johannesburg Online Application System form, where you must enter all required information. Individuals who are applying for the first time have never used the University of Johannesburg’s online application system before and do not already have accounts that allow them to log in using their username and password. If this is your first time applying, you must first register. You must provide your name, email address, password, the type of program you’re applying for, and your qualification mode during the registration stage.

 

  • Step 3 requires you to upload supporting documentation; all new qualification candidates must complete this step (all first-time applicants and University of Johannesburg students starting a new qualification). The application deadline coincides with the deadline for uploading the required files. Materials received after the application deadline will not be accepted. Scanners and other electronic equipment are not available at the University of Johannesburg. Before beginning the UJ Online Application procedure, please ensure that your documents have been scanned and uploaded to an electronic device.

 

  • After receiving your student ID, the fourth step is to pay the application fee through the University of Johannesburg. Use the reference number for your application fee, as well as your University of Johannesburg student number (ie STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030). After you have paid the fee, your application will be considered and processed. Please be aware that this fee is non-refundable.

Applicants who are attending or have attended a University within or outside the Republic of South Africa must submit an academic transcript that covers the period of study, especially if they intend on being granted exemption from modules or courses at the University.

Degree-seeking students

In order to study for a South African degree applicants are required to have achieved a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement. All International applicants with high school qualifications achieved outside of the Republic of South Africa require a certificate of exemption from the Matriculation Board of South Africa for admission into undergraduate studies. The following supporting documents must be submitted to the Matriculation Board at the address provided below;

  • Form M30 (this form can be downloaded on the Matriculation Board website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
  • Correctly certified copies of the applicants educational qualifications certified by a South African High Commission,
  • Consulate, Trade Mission, or a Public Notary in your home country

UNIVERSITY FEES

Fees generally increase between 5 and 10 percent per year. Please contact the University in November 2024 to obtain the final fees for the 2025 academic year.

Please Note: All accepted International applicants are required by the Department of Home Affairs to provide proof of available funds for the full tuition fee of the academic year and proof of Medical Aid administered in South Africa paid for a full academic year of study prior to receiving their study visa.

All privately (i.e. Self, Parent/s or Guardian) funded international students are required to pay their tuition and residence fees (on-campus residences) as follows:

  • An upfront payment of 40% of tuition and residence fees must be paid before or at registration.
  • 30% of the tuition and residence fees are to be paid by 30 April.
  • 30% of the tuition and residence fees are to be paid by 31 July.

International levy 2025

The levies mentioned below are to be paid in line with the above-mentioned fees structural payment above together with the non-refundable International Levy, Registration fee, and ICT Levy. PLEASE NOTE that the International levy expires on 31 December of each year.

  • SADC- and other African Countries – (Postgraduate, Undergraduate, Full-time, Part-time) – R2 000-00
  • Other countries – R17 000.00

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are determined yearly per module, with the exception of dissertations and theses, which are assessed per semester per degree program until the dissertation or thesis is submitted to the faculty concerned in its final form.

International undergraduate students

The following tuition fees are due:

  • A deposit of 30% of the tuition fee is required at the time of registration.
  • 65% of tuition fees must be paid by April 30th.
  • Tuition fees must be paid in full by July 31.
  • If all fees are paid at registration, the University will give you a 5% discount.

All students must pay the following non-refundable ICT levy, registration fee, and international levy in addition to the regular tuition fee:

  • Non-refundable ICT levy and registration fee, as well as regular tuition fees and an R2 000.00 non-refundable international levy
  • Non-refundable ICT levy and registration fee, as well as regular tuition fees and an R17 000.00 non-refundable international levy
  • Non-degree/occasional/SADC and African countries
  • A non-refundable ICT levy and registration fee, as well as regular tuition fees and an R2 000.00 non-refundable international levy, are included in practical training.
