The R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant application period is still active and will end in March of 2019. Online submission of an SRD grant application is one of the most popular methods.

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) award, commonly known as the R350 grant, was launched as a new Sassa grant by the South African government in reaction to Covid-19 and its effects on the economy.

Applicants must make sure they meet the requirements before applying:

1. citizens, permanent residents, asylum seekers, refugees, and holders of special permits from South Africa
2. unemployed
3. have no other means of assistance for your finances or a backup income source.
4. between 18 and 60 years old
5. no other social funds, UIF, or NSFAS are received.

To apply for an R350 Grant Online in 2023-2024;

1. Go to the SRD website and click the yellow bar next to “How do I apply for this SRD Grant” to start the application process.
2. Submit your cellphone number.
3. Enter the one-time pin Sassa has issued to the phone after clicking “send sms” to send an SMS.
4. By completing the Sassa-required procedures, continue the application process.

You can also use WhatsApp to submit R350 grant applications by;

• Dialing 082 046 8553.
• Send a message to this number on Whatsapp.
• In the WhatsApp message, make sure to mention your name, last name, and ID number.
• The next steps will be described in a message you will thereafter receive.
• Given that SASSA will be engaging with other institutions to verify the information supplied by applicants, all applicants will need to sign a statement and consent form.

You just need to submit an application once on one channel and not often across all channels. Only one application per applicant will be processed by Sassa. Once applications have been processed, SASSA will get in touch with the selected candidates.

APPLICATION THROUGH WHATSAPP

Online application for the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). Applying online can be done by following any of the instructions below.

To apply for the SRD grant on WhatsApp, follow the steps outlined below.

• Send a WhatsApp message to 082 046 8553 if you want to apply.
• The applicant should enter personal information as requested by the chat.
• A reference number, an OTP number, and a website link will be provided to the applicant.
• The applicant must click the link, enter the OTP number, and choose “verify.”
• The applicant must include their last name and ID number.
• Applicant confirms information as it appears in the conversation.
• Please go to Step 2 ACKNOWLEDGE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

APPLICATION THROUGH WEBSITE

• Launch your web browser. Either Mozilla, Opera Mini, Google Chrome, etc.
• Find it by typing https://srd.sassa.gov.za
• The applicant enters their cellphone number and ID, then clicks the send SMS button.
• A 6-digit OTP will be sent to the applicant.
• The applicant must enter the OTP number and select the pin to validate.
• Please proceed to Step 2: ACKNOWLEDGE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

APPLICATION THROUGH CHATBOT

To apply through the SASSA Chatbot, follow the procedures outlined below.

• Open  your Internet browser.
• Do a search for www.sassa.gov.za.
• A chat box for SRD R350 Grant support will be selected by the applicant on the website.
• ID number and mobile phone are provided by the applicant.
• I wish to apply for the SRD R350 award will be the applicant’s chat-selected response.
• There will be a link to the SRD website provided by the chatbot.
• Applicant will adhere to the SRD Website Steps
