The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has mandated that recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) award understand the current grant collection process as payments for the month continue. Here is all the information you require.

The Social Help of Trouble Award (SRD) is available to South African citizens, exiles, refugees, and extraordinary license holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60, have limited resources, are not eligible for or contributing to the UIF installment, and have no other source of income.

As a result, you have been advised by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) that if your request for a grant of R350 has been approved, you may collect your grant payment using one of the methods specified below.

Additionally, Sassa has recommended R350 grant beneficiaries to frequently check the SRD website to see how their SRD applications are progressing: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.

In order to pick up their grants from the aforementioned stores, recipients of SRD grants are also advised to always have a registered cellphone number, preferably the one they used to apply.

Sassa has also warned beneficiaries not to go to the grant payment collection places before getting an SMS notification because their grant won’t be available.

Additionally, Sassa has stated that recipients of R350 awards are not required to collect their awards straight away and that they will be available for collection.

Cash deposited into your bank or Postbank account electronically at a certain pay point on a specific day (the bank may charge you for the service) (e.g. old age home).
Note: If you are unable to collect the funds personally, you may designate a procurator or provide someone power of attorney to do so at the SASSA office.

What date will your grant be assessed?

SASSA will have the last say in the grant review. Your disclosed income as of the time you apply for the grant will be used to make this determination. The review date or the day on which a life certificate evidence that you are still alive is required will be announced three months in advance. If you receive your funds through a bank, an organization, or a procurator, you must submit a life certificate to the SASSA offices each year.

When is your grant revocable?

In the event of any of the following, your grant could be revoked:

if you refuse to comply when your grant is evaluated
when you conduct fraud or make false statements about yourself
