The South African government provides social assistance to residents who are in need. The SASSA is in charge of overseeing social grants in South Africa. Those who are in need of government support to raise their level of life and who are in risk of sliding into poverty may be eligible for social grants. Parents with small children, the elderly, and those with disabilities are commonly included. A social grant must be applied for by a citizen of South Africa, an authorized permanent resident, or a refugee. Additionally, they must be South African nationals.
What is a means test?
Some social benefits, including those for child support, disabilities, caregiving, and the treatment of social suffering, are subjected to a “means test.” SASSA will conduct a means test based on your income and assets to determine if you qualify for a social grant. Care dependency allowance
Parents of disabled children who work full-time may be eligible for care dependence grants.

R1 860 per child, per month.
How do you know if you’re eligible for the grant?
To be eligible for the care dependency grant, the child must be under the age of 18 and permanently disabled, as determined by a medical officer.
