The South African Social Security Agency, or SASSA, manages a variety of subsidies for South Africans who are in need. Many citizens of the country rely on these awards for their employment.

The South African Social Security Agency administers grants and allowances for groups in South African society who need help (SASSA). This covers grants for young people, the elderly, and those with impairments. SASSA also oversees the R350 funding for specific Covid-19 crisis relief of distress.

Grant for Child Support

The Child Support Grant assists parents in meeting the basic requirements of their children in lower-income families. Each kid will get R460 each month.

The requirements are:

  • The primary caretaker of a kid must be a citizen or Permanent Resident of South Africa.

  • If the carer is single, their monthly income must be less than R4000; if they are married, their combined income must be less than R8000.

  • A state institution cannot be caring for the child.

  • In South Africa, the child must reside with the primary caretaker, who is not compensated.

  • More than six children who are not officially your biological or adoptive offspring may not receive the grant.

Older Grant

The SASSA Older Persons Grant requires candidates to fulfill a number of requirements. The applicant must fulfill a number of standards in order to be eligible for the grant. Depending on your age, you’ll receive between R1890 and R1910 in compensation.

To be eligible for the award for elderly people, the candidate must:

  • be a citizen of South Africa, a permanent resident, or a refugee.

  • be a resident of South Africa.

  • not less than 60 years old.

  • not be entitled to a second social grant.

  • The candidate and their spouse must both pass the means test.

  • not be closely followed or given much attention in a state institution.

  • submit a bar-coded, 13-digit identifying document.

Disability Grant

While they are living with a disability, the grantee will get R1890 each month.

In order to be eligible for the grant, the candidate must:

  • be a citizen of South Africa, a permanent resident, or a refugee.

  • be a resident of South Africa.

  • between 18 and 59 years old.

  • Send in a medical report or assessment finding a significant, ongoing impairment.

  • present a medical assessment that was finished no more than three months after the application was submitted.

  • satisfy the requirements for the means test (counting mate).

  • not be closely followed or given much attention in a state institution.

  • not be entitled to a second social grant for themselves.

War Veterans Grant

This stipend is for those who served in the Second World War (1939–45) or the Korean War but are unable to support themselves (1950–53).

To qualify for this grant, you must:

  • being 60 years of age or older,.

  • being disabled

  • being a resident of South Africa.

  • not receiving any other social assistance for oneself.

  • not being cared for in a state institution.

  • not earning more than R 86 280 for single people or R172 560 for couples.

  • if married, not possess assets valued at more than R 2 455 200 or R 2 227 600.

Care Dependency Grant

You might qualify for this grant if you look after a kid who has a severe handicap and needs full-time, specialized care. Recipients of this program receive R1890 each month.

The criteria for this grant are as follows:

  • The candidate must be a refugee, a South African national, or a permanent resident.

  • Both the applicant and the kid must reside in South Africa.

  • The minor must be under the age of 18.

  • The applicant must provide a medical or assessment report attesting to a serious, ongoing disability.

  • The candidate and spouse must satisfy the means test standards, with the exception of foster parents.

  • The dependent child or children cannot stay for an extended period of time in a state facility.

Foster Child Grant

According to a court ruling, the foster parent is given a child foster care grant. Each month, they will receive R1050.

The criteria for this grant are as follows:

  • The foster parent must be a refugee.

  • A South African citizen, or a permanent resident.

  • Both the applicant and the kid must reside in South Africa.

  • The child must remain in the custody of the foster parent(s).

Grant In Aid

This is used in conjunction with another grant to cover medical costs, buy nutritious food, and pay the caregiver. Recipients will receive R460 each month.

The following requirements must be satisfied by applicants:

  • The candidate must be a grantee for older people.

  • a grant for people with disabilities or one for war veterans; another individual must enroll full-time.

  • because of their ailments, whether mental or physical

  • must not receive medical attention from a place that is paid for by the state as the beneficiary’s home or care facility.

Covid-19 Special Relief of Distress Grant

  • The Special Relief of Distress Grant was made available to unemployed people during the Covid-19 pandemic. they would then receive R350 each month.

    The following criteria apply:

  • The nominee is looking forward to receiving a supported social award.

  • According to a medical evaluation, the applicant is unable to work for pay for fewer than six months.

  • Application must be submitted within three months of the breadwinner’s passing.

  • There is no proof that a parent, child, or spouse is required by law to pay maintenance, and attempts to get maintenance have failed.

  • The family’s breadwinner has been admitted to an institution that receives state funding (prison, psychiatric hospital, state home for the elderly, substance abuse treatment center, or child and youth care center).

  • A disaster is one that has impacted the applicant, according to the Disaster Management Act or the Fund Raising Act of 1978.

  • No other institution provides assistance to the person.

  • There would be excessive hardships if you choose not to apply for social assistance.
