To help its residents in need, the South African government offers social handouts. Social grants in South Africa are managed by the SASSA. Social grants are available to those who are in need of help raising their level of living but are at risk of going hungry. Parents of small children, the elderly, and those with impairments are frequently included in this group. A South African citizen, lawful permanent resident, or refugee must be in order to qualify for a social grant (proof of such status must be provided). Furthermore, they have to be South African nationals.
What does “means test” mean?
Some social benefits, including as child support, disability, care dependence, and social alleviation of distress, are subject to a “means test.” SASSA will apply the means test to evaluate your eligibility for a social grant based on your income and assets. The means test determines your eligibility for a grant designed for persons who cannot afford to live independently.
Care and dependency reimbursement
Parents of handicapped children who are employed full-time may be eligible for care dependence grants. How much money will be distributed overall as a result of this grant?
Note: each child is entitled to R1,860 pre month.
How do you tell if you’re qualified for the grant?
The care dependence award is only available to children who are chronically handicapped and under the age of 18, as assessed by a medical officer. If you’re married, you and your spouse must both meet the minimum eligibility requirements set out by the means test.
