Residents who are in need receive social assistance from the South African government. In South Africa, social grants are managed by the SASSA. People who are in risk of falling into poverty and who want assistance from the government to enhance their standard of living can apply for social subsidies. They frequently consist of the elderly, people with disabilities, and parents of young children. A South African citizen, a permanent resident, or a refugee must apply for a social grant (proof of such status must be provided). They must also be citizens of South Africa.
What is a means test?
Care giving, child support, disability, and social relief of bereavement are all subject to a “means test,” among other things. Based on an assessment of your income and assets, SASSA will decide whether you qualify for a social grant under the means test. The means test determines if you are eligible for a grant for those who don’t earn enough money to live on.
Care dependency grant
Full-time working parents with handicapped children may qualify for care dependence allowances. How much money will be distributed overall as a result of this grant?
- R1 860 per child, per month.
How do you determine if you’re eligible for the grant?
To qualify for the care dependency award, the child must be under the age of 18 and medically determined to be chronically disabled. If you’re married, you and your spouse must both meet the minimum eligibility requirements set out by the means test. To assist you with your Sassa application, consult the articles provided below.
