The Social Relief of Distress Grant is administered in accordance with Section 32 of the Social Assistance Act of 2004 (Act No (SRD Grant). 13 of 2004) and is carried out with the blessing of the Priest of Money.
For South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, and Special Permit Holders between the ages of 18 and 60 who lack sufficient funds, do not qualify for or contribute to UIF payments, receive no social grants for themselves, and have no other sources of income, there is the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant).

For SASSA to review an application, applicants or their representatives must confirm or provide the following information.

It is crucial to note

Please be aware that no documents will need to be supplied and that all information will be provided electronically. Please give SASSA with a mobile number so we may contact you and update you on the status of your application. You can also monitor the status of your application on this page. If your application is turned down, you will have one month to file an appeal with the Department of Social Development in order to challenge the SASSA’s decision. You will be provided advice on how to submit an appeal when you learn that your application has been rejected. The initial judgment will be upheld if no appeal is submitted for each month the application is rejected.
