The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) would continue to be open and operated at Adjusted Alert level 4 with a decreased employee complement, per the Department of Public Service and Administration circular.
According to the type of grant, applications for social grants at all local offices will be staggered: for example, on Mondays, applications for older people, on Tuesdays, for grants for people with disabilities, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, for grants for children, and on Fridays, for appointments and spillover from the week.
She was discussing her department’s response to COVID-19 and the President’s recently unveiled Level 4 Risk Adjusted Strategy with the media in Pretoria.
Thanks to some of the changes it made in response to COVID-19, the Department of Social Development has been able to speed up the digitization of its services.
One of these is the online system for making reservations for grants for people with disabilities, which has significantly cut down on the time and costs for both SASSA and grant applicants.

“We are quite proud of the considerable advancements we have seen since the online booking system was introduced in April of this year. We thus want to advise anyone who are applying for disability grants to use the SASSA online booking system, which is accessible through the organization’s website.
“This will enable applicants to schedule disability assessment dates. To ensure that clients don’t have to visit local offices again, our workers at SASSA offices can help them with this method, the Minister stated.
SASSA will continue to make grant payments in a staggered fashion, with the first payment date reserved for seniors and the subsequent payment dates for all child awards and grants for individuals with disabilities.
“On Tuesday, July 6, this month’s social grant payments will begin. We want to reiterate that grant applicants are not required to pick up their grants on the day they become available; instead, they can do it whenever they choose because the money will stay in their accounts and won’t be seized from them, Zulu added.
