According to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in the North West, which refuted charges that it had purposefully lowered its awards, people with HIV can still get the temporary disability stipend.

It specified that applicants for the grant had to be suffering from a condition that had lasted for at least six to twelve months.

According to the study, this was based on how long it would take a person with “moderate to severe functional impairment” to recover if they adhered to the recommended treatment.

Sassa linked chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension to HIV infection.

According to the statement, “In the event of HIV, this award would be transitory as the client might recover fully and do all everyday tasks if he or she adhered to treatment.”

After six or twelve months, if a person’s condition was still “moderate or seriously impaired,” they might reapply for the grant.

It stated that claims Sassa North West is purposefully reducing grants because of subpar management or insensitivity to those living with HIV and Aids were false.
