sassa grant relief 2023-2024

An individual in desperate need receives a Social Relief of Distress award in the form of a one-time payment. People who are unable to meet their own basic requirements or those of their family are given the award and sent home.
The funding might cover:

  • cash

  • gift cards

  • food as a component

You must fulfill one of the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for Social Relief of Distress:

1. You need assistance while your children’s grants are being processed.
2. A crisis or calamity has occurred (e.g. your house has burnt down)
3. Despite your poor circumstances, you are not qualified for a grant.
4. You are unable to work for more than six months due to a medical condition.
5. Neither your child nor the other parent of the children can pay child support to you.
6. The main breadwinner of the household passed away.
7. The main breadwinner has recently served time in jail (less than six months)
8. Despite the fact that your town or neighborhood has been impacted by a disaster, it has not been designated as a disaster area.

You can use a food box or a meal ticket for social distress reduction. Several provinces offer financial assistance. Only a short term, typically three months, with a potential extension of another three months, is provided for social relief of distress.
