sassa grant money 2023-2024

Millions of South Africans get social subsidies from the government, which they use to pay for monthly purchases of necessary goods and services. These grant recipients may not be able to get their funding as normal, nevertheless.

Permanent grant beneficiaries must come up with alternate strategies to collect their money, according to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). This is due to a system flaw at pay locations that prevents awards from being paid out.

Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent social subsidies each month. These permanent funds include the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Care Grant, Grant in Aid, War Veterans Grant, and Care Dependency Grant.

Permanent grants are given out during the first week of each month. A lot of grant beneficiaries pick up their funds from a South African Post Office (SAPO) site.

However, they won’t be able to pick up their awards this week at a Post Office because of Sapo’s system problems.

According to the organization, Sassa gold card members can withdraw money from ATMs and merchants. The retail establishments include Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, and Boxer.

The finance minister, Enoch Godongwana, predicted that social payments will increase more quickly than inflation. In his address introducing the 2022 budget, he made the announcement.

Here Are The SASSA Grant Increases

  • Old Age grant will increase to R1 985 from R1 890 (5% increase)

  • Old Age grant (above 75 years old) and War Veterans grant will increase to R2 005 from R1 910 (5% increase)

  • The Care Dependency grant will increase to R1 985 from R1 890 (5% increase)

  • The Foster Care grant will increase to R1 070 from R1 050 to (a 1.9% increase)

  • Child Support Grant will increase to R480 from the current R460 (4.3% increase)

According to Minister Godongwana, the Department of Social Development would be given the most money in the medium term—a total of R58.6 billion.

The total number of grant recipients in the country will increase by an average of 1.5%, according to the National Treasury’s 2022 Budget Review. This suggests that the number of grant recipients will rise from 18.4 million in 2021/2022 to 19.2 million in 2024/25.

The following data do not include the 10.5 million recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 award.

“The child support and old age grants together account for more than half of the overall grant expenditure throughout the MTEF period. The proposal states that these awards will provide assistance to 17.2 million people in 2022–2023.
