sassa caregiver grant 2023-2024

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) offers a range of social support grants to needy residents. In an effort to increase their support, they are now urging caregivers to apply for this funding.

Every month, the South African Social Security Agency gives out over 18 million awards (Sassa). The more than 5 million people who will qualify for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant in June 2024 are not included in this.

Non-parental caregivers are urged to apply for the Extended Child Support Grant by Sassa. This includes scenarios in which one or both parents have passed away or in which it is uncertain where the other parent is.

The Extended Child Support Grant, according to the organization, was developed to prevent children without parents from having to go through the foster care system just because of financial constraints.

In order to be eligible for the Extended Child Support Grant, the caregiver must present the death certificates of both parents, or the primary parent’s death certificate along with an affidavit attesting to the fact that the other parent is not involved in the child’s care and that the other parent’s whereabouts are unknown.
