The South African government provides social subsidies to residents in need. The SASSA is in charge of social grants in South Africa. Social grants are available to those who are at danger of poverty and need help from the government to raise their level of living. Oftentimes, they include the elderly, those with impairments, and parents of small children. For a social grant, a South African citizen, a permanent resident, or a refugee must apply (proof of such status must be provided). Additionally, they must be South African nationals.
What is a means test?
A “means test”, including those for care giving, child support, disabilities, and social alleviation of grief, are subject to a “means test.” Your eligibility for a social grant under the means test will be determined by SASSA based on an evaluation of your income and assets. The means test assesses if you qualify for a grant intended for those who don’t make enough money to live on.
Care dependency grant
Full-time working parents with handicapped children may qualify for care dependence allowances. How much money will be distributed overall as a result of this grant?
-
R1 860 per child, per month.
How do you determine if you’re eligible for the grant?
The kid must be under the age of 18 and chronically incapacitated, as established by a medical officer, in order to be eligible for the care dependence award. If you’re married, both you and your spouse need to be at least as eligible as the means test allows. You can use the articles listed below to help you with your Sassa application.
