Now, Alex residents who maintain a regular TymeBank account are qualified to receive their social relief of distress (SRD) stipend one day early.
Sassa has chosen TymeBank, one of the digital banks with the quickest growth, to assist in distributing the R350 grant. It has raised the stakes for its clients by enabling them to access their money one day early.
This is a part of TymeBank’s efforts to help the government ease financial challenges for the unemployed and disadvantaged groups of society, according to Cheslyn Jacobs, chief commercial officer.

According to Jacobs, the situation for the millions of people without work and living below the poverty line remains grave even though official statistics show that South Africa’s unemployment rate slightly fell in the second quarter of this year, from 34,5 percent to 33,9 percent.
According to Sassa data, more than 60% of applicants are under the age of 35, 40% have completed matriculation, and 5% have a higher degree.
“If one looks at the profile of SRD grant applicants, it’s clear that the economic suffering in our community is deep and cuts across a wide range of social groups, and the Sassa grant brings much-needed relief. We are working with the government and other industry role players to ensure that those who qualify for the grant receive their money as soon as possible,” Jacobs said in his conclusion.
“Applicant is reminded that at least once every three months, they must reconfirm their grant with Sassa.”
