If you have been granted an SASSA grant but did not select to have your payment sent to a bank account, you might be interested in learning more about the other payment methods. You can receive payment in the following manner without a bank account.
The South African Social Security Agency provides social relief grants to unemployed and financially struggling people (SASSA).
Now that you have applied for and been awarded the SASSA grant, you might be wondering how the grant payment procedure works if you have not selected to receive your grant payment in a bank account.
Awards for long-lasting social behavior are paid on specific dates each month. These award payments start on the second of every month.
These funds include the foster care grant, the elderly grant, and the grant for people with disabilities.
However, if you receive a Social Help Misery (SRD) award, you won’t have a reasonable installment date; in contrast, people who receive child support awards are paid on the day that the court specified.
Beneficiaries are able to choose the award payment method that best meets their requirements.
Beneficiaries can pick up their grant payments at eligible retailers and stores by using an SASSA card.
The R350 SRD grants are disbursed as follows:
Services for Post Bank/Cash Send
-
If you don’t have a bank account, you can still use PostBank services to get your R350 grant using a CashSend.
-
Beneficiaries can now use their ID cards and phone numbers to obtain their award money. The cell phone number that is registered must belong to the grant applicant.
Stores like Checkers, PicknPay, Shoprite, Usave, and Boxer
-
In an effort to give recipients more options for grant collection and to simplify grant payments, SASSA stated that beneficiaries can get their grant by going to a Checkers, Boxer, or PicknPay store.
-
You won’t be able to pick up your grants at BP Pick n Pay Express, Pick n Pay Clothing, or Pick n Pay Liquor.
Recipients must wait for an SMS to arrive on their phone before coming to the store to pick up their grant.
Card SASSA
Grantees might choose to have their grant money deposited into their SASSA card accounts. You are not liable for any fees incurred by using the SASSA card account, unless the card is used for services that SASSA does not pay for.
If you decide to obtain one, an SASSA card will be sent to you by the South African Post Office.
How will the SRD grant payments be handled?
Answer
The payment will be made either by a direct deposit into your bank account or through the cash transfer option, which transfers cash to your phone and allows you to withdraw it from any bank ATM of your choice. Applicants without a bank account can pick one of the following four institutions to receive a cash transfer:
-
ABSA
-
FNB
-
NEDBANK
-
STANDARD BANK
SASSA will use the Post Office to send the payment if no other method is available. All individuals with special permissions and those seeking asylum will be compensated via the post office. A physical appearance together with the necessary documentation will be required in order to establish identify prior to payment being made.
