r350 social grant 2023-2024

A Social Relief of Distress grant is given as a one-time payment to a person who is in extreme need. People who are unable to meet their own or their family’ fundamental needs leave with the prize. The grant can come with money, gift cards, or food.

You must meet one of the criteria below in order to be eligible for Social Relief of Distress:

  • While the funds for your children are being processed, you need assistance.

  • A disaster or calamity has occurred (for example, your house has burned down). Despite being in a dire condition, you are ineligible for a grant.

  • You are unable to work for less than six months as a result of a medical condition.

  • You cannot ask your child or the child’s other parent to pay child support.

  • The family’s primary provider has died.

  • The primary provider of income has recently been detained.

  • Although a disaster has affected your neighborhood or community, it has not yet been declared a disaster area.

What outcomes do you observe?

For social relief of distress, you can utilize a food box or a meal voucher. Some provinces provide financial aid. Social Relief of Distress is only offered for a brief period of time, usually three months, with a possible extension of another three months.

  • If you lack a birth certificate or an identity document, a Justice of the Peace-ordered affidavit may be used instead. The affidavit must contain a clause noting that providing inaccurate or misleading information would result in a penalty under Section 21 of the Social Assistance Act of 2004.

  • a sworn statement from a reliable source who is familiar with both the applicant and the child A councilman, traditional figurehead, social worker, or member of the clergy could say this.
evidence that an application for a birth certificate or other identification document has been submitted to the Department of Home Affairs

If applicable, a temporary identity document from the Department of Home Affairs.

  • a certificate of baptism.

  • a card for a health clinic on the way.

  • an academic report.

Please remember that no application can be submitted without a sworn statement or affidavit.

An affidavit from your neighborhood police department, chief, counselor, or religious leader may be sufficient if you don’t have proof of identification or birth certificates.

Give evidence that you:

  • have submitted a grant application;

  • have an emergency (e.g. provide a police report that your house burnt down)

  • are married, divorced, or single,

  • have attempted to obtain maintenance,

  • lack income,

  • have a temporary medical condition.

What is the time frame?

  • Your application will be looked at as soon as possible.

  • Your application will be examined once you submit it to determine whether there is a genuine demand for the service.

  • You will still get your first month’s food box, voucher, or cash even if you don’t have all the necessary paperwork.

  • Before the second month’s payment is due, don’t forget to provide the officer with all the necessary paperwork. You risk losing your food box, voucher, or cash for the second and third months if you don’t.

  • You may ask to have the award extended for an additional three months if your situation does not change after three months.
