Applications for reconsideration for recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant are still being delayed.
Applications for reconsideration for recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant are still being delayed.
The South African Social Security Agency evaluates applications for SRD grants on a monthly basis to determine their eligibility (Sassa).
One of the procedures in the verification process is to confirm the applicant’s bank information. In order to keep the client’s monthly income under R585, this is done.
If the client’s monthly income exceeds R595, their request for reconsideration is denied. Customers of Sassa, however, have the option to ask for a reassessment of their application if it is turned down.

Sassa has informed customers that there is no defined amount of time for the bank verification procedure.
They said, “The bank verification process does not have a specific timeline. The Department of Treasury receives the applicant’s information, which is then forwarded to the applicant’s chosen bank for verification before being returned to Treasury and eventually being delivered to SASSA for payment.
A further year has been added to the SRD grant’s duration. This suggests that the grant now has a new expiration date.
