The South African Social Security Agency has announced that it is now accepting applications for the R350 special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant for jobless people.

Requirements:

The following conditions have to be satisfied by applicants:

they must be at least 18 years old,
unemployed,
not being eligible for unemployment insurance benefits
not receiving no social assistance or income,
not living in a home not supported by the government,
not being eligible to receive a stipend under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.

The following information is required from potential candidates in order to complete their applications:

Identity Number;
Name and Surname as captured in the ID (and initials);
Gender and Disability;
Banking details – Bank name and account number;
Contact details – Cell phone number;
Proof of residential address;

When does it start to pay off and for how long is it valid?

On May 15, the first R350 special Social Relief of Distress (SRD) payments will be made under Covid-19.
The grants, which have a six-month duration and a value of R2,100 each, are open to all South Africans over the age of 18 who are unemployed and do not receive any other government assistance.

Email to SRD@sassa.gov.za, which automatically sends back a form to fill in
A USSD code, by dialling *134*7737# from a cell phone

Your cell phone number may have changed if your application is rejected.
The payment system checks a potential customer’s cell phone number against other public databases as part of its fraud protection measures.
If a candidate tries to apply using a different mobile phone number than the one they previously used to submit an application to a corporation like the Unemployment Insurance Fund or the SA Revenue Service, the system will reject their application.

How is it distributed?

If recipients don’t have bank accounts, they can choose from a variety of banks to make ATM withdrawals.
Due to the large banks’ ability to deliver cash, people who do not have bank accounts will receive money.
The only information needed to withdraw money through these systems, such as First National Bank’s eWallet and Absa’s CashSend, is basic information provided to a mobile phone number; no card or other means of identity verification are necessary.
